In the simplest terms Liberty Den is about the Christian faith, politics and the sanctity of all life. The goal of Liberty Den is to speak boldly and plainly about what I believe but to always find a common ground with people I disagree with. We are all different, we are all strong in our beliefs but we all have to share this world; let’s try and be civil at all times.

Liberty Den is the personal blog of Patrick Britton. Patrick is a moderate liberal from Pennsylvania. While it’s easiest to just call him a Liberal the fact is that he does not tow the line of any political party. There are various issues on all sides of the fence that Patrick finds agreement with. The purpose of the blog is for reflection on current issues in regards to politics. Below are his opinions on various issues. This reference is here to give you an idea what to expect. This is not here to divide, simply to inform, opposing opinions are not only welcome but encouraged so please–stick around even if you find agreement with only one or two issues below as healthy debate is best for both sides of all issues.

100% Pro-Life – Whole Life

  • Pro-life, whole life. Against abortion, with a few exceptions, that being to save the women’s life and other touchy issues (rape, incest). (Read Right to Life.)
  • Against the death penalty. It is barbaric, infective and does not deter or solve the problem. Statistics also show a bias against poor and African-American individuals.
  • Pro-life, not just Pro-birth. Being pro-life also means taking care of the misfortune, sick and elderly from the womb to the tomb if necessary. A society as advanced as ours has no excuse not to take care of these individuals.
  • War ONLY for defense purposes. Not interventionist policies or nation building missions. A strong support of our troops which means keeping them out of harms way when possible.
  • Animals have rights too. Vegetarian, against animal cruelty and factory farming. Support local farms and shop at fruit markets!
  • Take care of the environment — we have to live here until further notice so let’s try and treat it well alright?
  • Gays deserve the same rights as straight people. Including the right to marry who they love no matter how much their parents hate that person. (Speaking from personal experience ;-) )
  • Racial equality, sexual equality, sexual preference equality, religious equality.
  • Religious freedom. Free to worship any or no religion. Personally I am a Christian.
  • Gun rights — sane and non-criminal folks have the right to bear arms. (No, not bazookas and machine guns, what do you need those for?)
  • Protect individuals from unfair business practices and corporate monopolies. The customer is always right, right? Not any more.
  • Jobs! American jobs first, war never. Can we please spend some more of that money at home please? Please?.
  • Just say NO to corporate welfare.
  • Against foreign aid. (Read about my reasons why here.)
  • Beer is good.

No, I don’t know everything and I tend to change my mind sometimes. I am here to teach myself as much as I am to inform you. It’s been a ride, I have flip-flopped on some issues over the years because of my desire to research the issues deeper. I think I have it right this time and I want to share my ideas with you. Care to come along with me?
